Palms LA Announce Closure and a Week of Farewell Deals
In the first big closure of 2019, we were saddened to learn over the weekend that Palms LA Kitchen and Bar will be closing their Sanyuanqiao location after four years of business.
Announced via a WeChat post on Sunday titled "With the end in sight, a final week of love," the team gave little away as to why they're closing but hinted that it wouldn't be the end of the restaurant, saying, "Stay tuned because we ain’t leaving Beijing that easily. We’ll be back real soon!". Luckily, Palms LA is no stranger to the precarious nature of F&B in Beijing, and is adept at rolling with the venue-change punches.
When Palms LA first touched down north of Gulou in 2014, it truly felt like something new, and quickly won over throngs of diners for its original (for Beijing) fusion of Mexican and Korean food, rocket fuel cocktails, cozy location, and friendly staff.
It wasn't a surprise then that many were bummed to hear of the original restaurant's closure at this time last year on account of the Great Brickening that swept through the area. Luckily, we still had the much larger, two-floor Sanyuanqiao space that could comfortably fit both the Dongcheng and Chaoyang fans. Now we'll have to wait and see where the potential new venue will land.
The closure is in part due to the expiration of our lease as well as having our beautiful patio taken away by local authorities earlier this year after our epic Cinco De Mayo party.
Speaking to co-owner Michael Tsai, he explains that the "closure is in part due to the expiration of our lease as well as having our beautiful patio taken away by local authorities earlier this year after our epic Cinco De Mayo party."
As for goss on where we're likely to see Palms pop up in the future, Tsai adds, "Because this is Beijing, where nothing is 100 percent until we’ve signed on the dotted line, for now, we can’t say what our exciting new project is, but rest assured as soon as we confirm, our fans will be the first to know."
Rest assured [that] as soon as we confirm our new project, our fans will be the first to know.
In order to see the "Big Palms" location off with a bang, they've prepared a slew of deals throughout this week that will replace their regular happy hour, including:
Jan 21-25: 30 percent off the entire bill (while supplies last, not valid for lunch sets)
Jan 26-27: 50 percent off all orders
Note that the restaurant is open for lunch today, Jan 21, but will be closed in the evening.
For anyone still desperate for a Palms' fill in the interim, you can continue to munch on their tacos, quesadillas, nachos, and wings at The Other Place.
